Class Content: You will LOVE playing in 3D with plaster! This class is a beginner introduction to the world of Plaster Relief. You will create 2 pieces in this class: a underwater theme panel and a small tropical leaf simpler panel. Plaster is a very fun media to work with and grants exceptional results. In this beginner class, the hard part has been pre-done for you so you can walk away with a very nice finished underwater themed piece of art that will WOW your friends!
I will Demonstrate each step and explain it as I go and then break so you can work on that step. I walk around and assist each student as needed. We will break for lunch around noon but will stay in the class for lunch so we can chat and answer questions.
I will have your panels prepared and dozens of pre-made molded ocean pieces so you can choose your favorites and position them as you like. Everyone’s piece will be unique and special since you choose which pieces you want and where to position them. I will have many more elements than you see in the class image as well so you can create your own underwater world. We will also create a simple leaf print relief as a second project during drying times of the underwater panel.
You Will Learn:
* How to prepare a surface for attaching plaster molded pieces (yours will be prepared in advance for time constraints)
* Learn to use molds to make 3d elements
* How to add Hanging Wire to your panel
* How to Lay down a layer of plaster on your panel and use tools to give the impression of water
* How to attach pre-made plaster elements to your panel
* Learn to use stencils to make unique 3D enhanced pieces of art
* Mix plaster to the right consistency for shaping and attaching your molds
* How to use cake decorating tips to add elements to your panel
* How to color or glaze your finished piece
PLEASE PACK A LUNCH… Our lunch break will be short so we can finish our work in one day.
Supply List: ***ALL SUPPLIES INCLUDED! Just bring yourself, your lunch and apron or clothes that can get messy.
Biography: Tennessee artist Carol Robin King was born and raised in Argentina where she discovered her love for drawing at the tender age of 3. At 13, Carol advanced from drawing to painting with oils and acrylics. While in Argentina, she attended 3 years of professional Art School. She loves continuing to learn and perfect her techniques through workshops and online classes. Art has always been a part of Carol’s life. She made extra money selling paintings as a child and painting portraits in college. Throughout the last 30 years, she has had the privilege of teaching art classes for children and teens as well as adults.
Carol also captures attention with her 3D wall sculptures. Working with cast stone and gypsum, these dimensional bas relief works not only catch the eye but awaken the senses as the shapes emerge – revealed by reflected light.
“Quiet times, pleasant memories and peaceful places are what I strive to capture in my art to bring the viewer a moment of peace in a hectic day or a pleasant memory to lift their spirit.”
Current projects are recording online video Watercolor lessons, teaching acrylic classes and working at the shared Studio 106 located inside the Emporium in the downtown Knoxville art district. Her work can also be found at Pivot Point Gallery in Knoxville, and she just opened a gallery with a couple other artists in Gatlinburg Tennessee in the Morning Mist Village on Glades Road. We hope you can stop by and visit at one of these locations!
